Six Years Old

Milo turned six this morning. To celebrate I made him cinnamon rolls (cinnamon remains his favorite spice). Milo and Justin spent the better part of the morning playing with his new hydrodynamic building set. Milo loved diverting the water and adding to the building design. Afterwards we went for ice cream and then Milo and Calder tried out Milo's new paint spinner. Probably one of the highlights of Milo's day was that he did not have to get out of his pajamas until we went out for ice cream. Dinner involved more of Milo's favorite foods (fried tofu and orzo, albeit not mixed together). Lastly, the boys got to watch "Empire Strikes Back" for the first time. It was a big (scary) hit. Milo DOES NOT believe that Darth Vader is Luke's father. "He's lying!" was the likely explanation. Milo went to bed smiling. Hooray! That is no small feat for a moody six-year-old.

Tiny Fairy

Today Zola and I played dress-up. Zola loves to don hats and often walks around wearing someone else's clothes over her own clothes, so I thought she might like to dress-up a bit in something her own size.

This morning my little fairy danced around, fluffed her skirt, read stories, and played catch. And, of course, she did not want to change out of her fancy dress for nap time.

First Day Of School Part 2

Today Calder attended his Montessori Orientation at CRES. He was very excited, albeit a little nervous. Once in his classroom, Calder was in his element, making friends immediately. Some of the five-year-olds latched onto him at once, of course, only after they mistook him for Milo! Tomorrow's the first full day of school for Calder and I'm pretty sure he'll be just fine, even if I'll be suppressing serious waterworks.

Superheroes To The Rescue

This past weekend we celebrated the boys' birthdays with their friends, Gramma and Grandpa, and Auntie Alli. This year a "Villain" (aka Daddy) had threatened to ruin the boys' birthday party and so some of their superhero friends were invited to help save the party.

After a little superhero training (obstacle course), the Villain arrived in costume with water balloon bombs, which the kids had to diffuse, subsequently tried to steal the birthday cake, which the children fought off with silly string, and eventually brought a giant bomb (pinata), which the children bashed so they could enjoy the candy inside. Although most of the older children, including Milo, thought this was fabulous fun, Calder and a few of the other smaller children, were initially horrified. Calder seems to have gotten over this, however, as he's asked whether he can dress up as a villain/robber for next year's party.

Here are more photos of the party.

First Grader

Yup. We have one. Bright and early this morning Milo and I headed off to Caughman Road Elementary School, where Milo is a student in Ms. Bradley's Lower Elementary Montessori classroom. True to his normal style, I received little detail from Milo regarding his first day. He did not, however, refuse to go back, complain about being bored, get in trouble for misbehavior, or forgo lunch, so I'll count it as a good first day.

Scenes from a (Water) Gun Fight

Four Years Old

Little Calder is four. Whoa. And so cute. He had a fun day playing with new toys, battling his siblings, Grandma, and Daddy with water pistols, and munching his favorite foods.
